He draws, paints, and uses cameras to make a variety of images. These images in turn are the product of many influences. He grew up in a Barrio in Southern California, studied Environmental Design at Berkeley in the mid-60′s, obtained a degree in history and art while living in Canada and spent a year living in Portugal before arriving in the UK. Whether the Placas he grew up with or the tiles that decorated the fishermen’s cottages in Portugal, the often ephemeral art of the anonymous ‘imagemaker’ is an inspiration for his work. The works of outsider artists and street artists are also significant influences on what he does, as is imagery from popular culture.
The prints on display are made from photographs taken while in Portugal this past year.
Here are a few examples of Booji Wooji Mans vibrant and edgy artwork. Come and see where he got his inspiration from and learn more about the background of his interesting and distinctive artwork.
The artwork of Booji Wooji Man will be on display until the end of June!
