During the workshop Ruth helped delegates to cover a wide range of marketing tools that can be used to help them promote themselves and their business, including Networking; Social Media; and PR. After the event delegates agreed that it had been a big success and that they had all learned invaluable new skills that will help them to grow their businesses.

Well, not quite free…Co-mentoring is where someone mentors you in exchange for you mentoring them (or someone else in the group) for free, so it’s a fair exchange.

What is business mentoring?

Mentoring is a ‘structured one-to-one relationship that focuses on the needs of the mentored participant’. Its aimed at sharing knowledge and encouraging individual development. It’s particularly useful for business plans, project planning, setting personal or business goals, problem-solving, making key decisions and generally working out ‘where am I going?’

How do I find out more?

We’re holding a lunchtime discussion on Tuesday 9 November at 1pm at the Exchange, led by Steve Chapman. Steve has had many years experience in the film and media sector of training, advising, coaching and mentoring. We’ll discuss in more detail some of the key concepts and skills involved in mentoring and see if we can set up our own co-mentoring group.

When and where?

Moseley Exchange, Tuesday 9th November at 1pm. All members and trial pass users welcome.

Our mid week catch up lunches on Wednesdays now come with a little food for thought once a month with a speaker or discussion topic; first up we had Exchange member Dr Steve Harding hosting a policy cafe – a useful discussion on the prospects for creative industries.

By popular demand, FREE Fridays will be continuing throughout December. If you’d like a friendly place to get some work done, have a meeting, make some new contacts or just take a look around, then come along anytime between 9am-6pm …but the best time? 11:30 when we’ll be having Coffee & Cake!

...sowing the seeds of exchange

Lots of co-working spaces around the globe encourage members to take a little time out of their business schedules to have lunch together on a regular basis.

It’s especially good for introducing new members to the co-working community and breaking the ice. It would be really great to have some planting in the courtyard at the Exchange and if the plants were edible then this could make for an interesting healthy lunchtime session. Members could bring their favourite salad accompaniments and add the leaves and herbs from the courtyard plants to make the final dish!

If you would like to donate any seeds or plant pots for the creation of the edible salad garden please pop in to the Exchange with whatever you can spare!

Don’t be put off by the traffic cone in the archway – that’s just to stop cars driving on the new concrete – walking on it is fine so come in and say Hi.

Next step will be making the courtyard look pretty with plants – suggestions are welcome…
