Mark Highton
Opening 2 July 19.00 – 21.00
3 July – 31 August

For the last six years Mark has had a studio space at home and this has led him to be very productive and complete a lot of work. As a result of this Mark has become active in promoting his artwork by contacting exhibition spaces and by entering art prizes.
This year, 2012, as well as this exhibition of paintings, he has entered paintings in The Biennial John Moores Contemporary painting prize and the Royal Academy’s Summer exhibition.
Although he has been painting for many years this is the first time for a long time that he has shown paintings in public, except for one painting that was recently
shown in the Anti-curate exhibition at the Midlands Art Centre
In the 1980s he went to Art School in Sydney, Australia. At that time he had work in group exhibitions and was successful in winning two portrait prizes.
This particular group of paintings was Marks opportunity to use a range of colours without the problem of wrapping it around representational form.
It has allowed Mark to concentrate solely on colour; the next Project will hopefully integrate that developed sense of colour and combine it with representational forms.
I have followed Mark’s work for some years and have purchased some of his earlier pieces. This up-coming exhibition promises to be an interesting and engaging experience. I wil certainly be there looking to add some more of his work to my collection.
