Creative writing classes in Moseley

Got something to say on paper? Or are you stuck with your creative writing and want to take it to the next level? Write Yourself Alive is an opportunity for new and more experienced writers to take a fresh look at writing poetry and prose as part of a small group, drawing inspiration from real life and the imagination, learning from your own practice and an experienced tutor.

Through creative writing you can explore and communicate what being alive is all about – whether you’re writing a story, a poem, or about your own life. You need only the desire to write and to learn. You don’t need to pay in advance but you must book in advance – places are limited.

 How it works

Sign up for a three-week module, or for all four: a total of twelve sessions. Each modulewill have a different focus: life-writing, poetry, fiction… the final one draws it all together.

Each session will begin with active reading (reading and responding to a text) and move into writing activities, with follow-up work to do at home. Because the group will be small the sessions will be adapted to your needs, but here are some areas we’ll cover:

  • writing spontaneously
  • editing and re-writing your own work
  • developing a writing routine
  • finding the right stimuli
  • writing about yourself from the outside
  • writing about others from the inside
  • playing with different voices and points of view

Moseley Exchange to “Run on Sun”

Community
Energy Birmingham has already raised £15,000 from short-term loans to install 8kW of solar PV panels at the Moseley Exchange in the centre ofMoseley Village. 30 panels have now been installed on the rear extension roof, generating clean energy from the sun to power the Exchange building and save Moseley Community Energy Trust hundreds of pounds a year from their electricity bills. We are now launching a Community Share Offer to raise a further £100,000 to :-

  • Add a further 40 panels on the main Exchange roof;
  • Install two further solar roofs at Ackers Adventure in Sparkbrook;
  • Commence development work on future projects;
  • Pay back our short-term lenders.

The launch event will take place at the Moseley Exchange on Thursday 2nd July, starting at 7.30 pm, where the CEB directors will be available to answer questions and explain the principles of the scheme.

Light refreshments and drinks available; all welcome.

New solar PV installation at Ackers Adventure

CEB are also pleased to announce that we have increased our solar PV capacity at Ackers Adventure. This additional installation includes a new device – called an Immersun – which will be able to divert the electricity generated into heating the hot water when required. This can be done at just the flick of a switch. So participants on residential courses will be able to look forward to plenty of hot water for their showers at the end of a long day spent skiing, canoeing or orienteering; and the Ackers management can look forward to considerably lower energy bills.
