3. Dan Burwood and Jude Hammersley

Exhibition until 30th of April

Dan and Jude introduce us to their photographic work of urban landscapes. They have found their own way to capture the public spaces in an intimate and personal perspective. They are looking for the human and mystical side of the city.

Dan takes photographs in documentary contexts for numerous purposes. Apart from beauty, formalism and balance, he is interested in photography as part of the process of culture. His focus on the photography capability for education, change, language- transcendence, commerce, punch-lines… In this exhibition he shows his photographs of the Middle East when he was working in collaboration with the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Science at Birmingham University.

In Jude’s photographs we see a juxtaposition of texture and colour. Her work is designed to grow and decay with the landscape or to be used as an accent to the space. She grew up and lived in large and diverse cities all her life. In those cities, derelict buildings and overgrown urban landscapes were a familiar sight. The graffiti, that can often be found in these areas, is usually in stark contrast to the natural growth and decay.
